Lesson-1: Balanced diet: What your dietitian says

1. What is a balanced diet? How important is a balanced diet?

balanced diet:

The foods which help us to maintain and improve our health is called balanced diet. It contains different types of foods in certain quantities and amounts so that the requirement for calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins and alternative nutrients is adequate. A balanced diet contains all the six groups of nutrients. Those are:

  • carbohydrates,
  • proteins,
  • fats,
  • vitamins,
  • mineral salts and
  • water.

Nowadays, fiber is treated as one of the most important nutrient. Thus a balanced diet can also be called a healthy diet.

Importance of balanced diet:

  1. A balanced diet helps to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
  2. In order to get the proper mutation from our diet, We Should keep in our daily food fresh vegetables, whole grains, peas, nuts etc.
  3. To safe and sound human organs and tissues we need balanced diet.
  4. Without good nutrition, our body can be affected by disease, infection, fatigue, and poor performance.
  5. Children with a poor diet and in the risk of growth and development problems and poor academic performance. So, a balanced diet is important for everybody.

2. What kind of food should we eat to stay healthy?

Doctors advise us maintain healthy life by avoiding red meat, junk and oily foods.  After a certain time specially after the age of 40, we need to take fresh vegetables, fruits, milk, low carbohydrate foods and to drink water. Together with this we have to check our BMI (body mass index, this determines not our daily Calorie Intake) according to which doctors or dieticians can suggest a meal Chart for a person.

Normally an adult male requires 2000 – 2500 calories and an adult woman requires 1500-2000 calories per day. This way we can stay & healthy by eating the right balanced diet every day.

3. Why do we need to have balance diet?

To get proper nutrition, we need to take balanced diet. We need to have balanced diet on regular basis because-

  • It supplies the nutrients human body requirements so that we work efficiently.
  • It is very essential for leading a healthy life.
  • A balance diet reduces our chronic diseases like cancer, heart attack, brain strokes etc.
  • Overall, we can do our daily work to boost our health.

4. What does a balanced diet contain?

A balanced diet contains fruits, vegetables, bread, rice, potatoes, and other starchy foods, milk and dairy foods, meat, fish, eggs, beans etc. It can be said that a balanced diet contains all the food value that a man needs to maintain a healthy body which is free from diseases.

5. How can we be healthy?

To be healthy we need balanced food, daily physical exercise, fresh air, plenty of clean water, complete rest during night, cleanliness in surrounding areas, healthy and green environment, regular medical checkup, good habits and peaceful family environment etc.

6. How can you give yourself healthy?

We know is saying” Health is wealth. “Now -a-days a conscious person wants to be in sound health. They always worry about how to maintain a good health and be free of disease. To keep our body fit and fine we should follow some health rules.

However, I also wants to be a healthy person so I follow some rules to keep myself healthy. Thus as:

  • I go to doctors and dieticians for advices and suggestions.
  • I wake up early in the morning and go to bed for sleep early in the night daily.
  • I follow a meal chart according to which my doctor’s or dietitians suggest me. To saying hydrated I take a proper quantity of water daily.
  • I always maintain a healthy body weight. As busy as I am I’m not taking food from restaurant or hotels.
  • Always I am staying out from taking alcoholic things or cigarette. To keep myself healthy I’m and Performing yoga and go to gym for physical exercises.

7. What is ‘Junk food?

Junk food is well known for its pungent taste and strong flavor rather than is nutrition value. It is great to eat and it can look very appealing but is not good for the body.

7. What amount of Calorie is required in a daily meal for an adult male?

Normally an adult male requires 2000 – 2800 calories daily meal.
